Job Description

This Lab Technician role with Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Basseterre, St. Kitts supports the instructional program and the day-to-day functioning of the Clinical Skills Laboratories. The position involves work with dead and live animals, as well as model-making materials, so attention to health and safety is important. Responsibilities include keeping the Clinical Skills Lab, Practice Lab, and Freezer Room clean and organized; preparing fluid solutions for model making; creating and maintaining cadaver models; setting up and breaking down labs; managing inventory logs and storage areas; collecting suitable specimens from the local abattoir; disposing of organic waste and biohazardous medical materials; and assisting faculty with live animals used in instruction. The role also supports student teaching by preparing models and specimens for instruction and examinations, helping students locate and return models, maintaining specimen and freezer storage, and teaching related laboratory subject matter under the direction of the instructional team. Required qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in Biological Sciences or a related field with additional laboratory experience. Background in laboratory maintenance, animal handling, or medical work is preferred, along with Microsoft Office and database knowledge, professional communication, flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and strong organizational skills.
