Job Description

The Senior Technician – Lab Services supports the Histology and Pathology sections within the Biomedical Sciences Department at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Basseterre, St. Kitts. This full-time position reports to the Histology Laboratory Manager, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Pathology Laboratory Manager. Responsibilities include retrieving and processing specimens, preparing and embedding tissue, microtome sectioning, staining slides, performing quality-control checks, maintaining specimen and slide records, and preparing materials for diagnostic testing. The technician also assists with autopsies and post-mortem procedures, specimen collection and documentation, tissue dissection, and biohazard waste disposal. Additional duties include managing laboratory inventory and purchase orders using SIMMS, assisting with budgets and SOPs, preparing reagents, maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities, and managing case information in the VADDS Laboratory Information Management System. The role also supports veterinary student practical training, microscopy instruction, and research activities. Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field, with histology laboratory experience. Histotechnician or Histotechnologist certification is desirable. Candidates should possess strong laboratory, organizational, and communication skills and be able to meet the physical and scheduling requirements of the position.
