Job Description
This full-time Veterinary Microbiology (Bacteriologist) Faculty role at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Basseterre, St. Kitts is based in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The appointee will join a teaching and research team focused on One Health and infectious diseases, working with bacteriologists, virologists, parasitologists, immunologists, epidemiologists, and pathologists. The post also involves collaboration with colleagues in Clinical Sciences and with regional and international schools and research institutions. The position combines teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities include Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology, Introduction to Microbiology with the Virology module, Essential Clinical Skills Laboratories, graduate teaching in the online Master’s in One Health, and other courses suited to the candidate’s background and interests. Research expectations include developing an independent and/or collaborative program, applying for extramural funding, presenting at conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The role may also contribute to bacteriology diagnostics in the Diagnostic Laboratory and includes faculty meetings, committee work, office hours, and service on Master’s and PhD committees. Applicants should hold a DVM or a comparable degree such as an MD or Microbiology degree, together with a PhD. Concentration of thesis work in Veterinary Bacteriology/Microbiology is highly desirable, and post-doctoral training and Diplomate status are also highly desirable. Candidates should have experience in clinical diagnostic bacteriology/microbiology, including culture and isolation techniques, molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and automation, along with a strong publication record, the ability to collaborate or build an independent research program, commitment to student-centered learning, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
